The Pool

The Pool

'The Pool', 2008, Oil on Panel, 91.5 x 60 cm

The Pool (5)

Initial ideas for The Pool arose from an outing with some friends to see a turtle derby in Los Angeles during the summer of 2005. Perhaps the large rectangular ring set up as the racing rink for the turtles suggested the cubic bath central to the composition.

The Pool is part of the 'Illuminations' series, displayed in Berlin, Los Angeles, and New York as well as at the Institute of Crazyology in 2013. The painting was displayed as a glowing lightpanel suspended in a dark room.

Other paintings in the Illuminations series include:

  • The Lord of Misrule
  • Cognitive Libertines
  • The Human Tree
  • Traffic Jam
  • No Parking Zone
  • Chemical Imbalance
  • Gallows Humor
  • Burlesque
